Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club - Presidents report July 2010

From my perspective, I am very proud to be the President of this fantastic club. In only our third year, membership numbers have now grown to 135, an increase of about 40 from the previous season. From the press coverage we receive in local print and radio to the display of club uniforms at major events, it is obvious that the sport of triathlon in Bathurst is here to stay.

We had many club "firsts' during the past season, and whilst recognising the importance of club level events that cater for all ages and skills, it is my belief that the defining moment for our club was the participation of 9 competitors at the Port Macquarie Ironman event. For a small regional club, this was a fantastic outcome. The positive public exposure for the club and triathlon in general was obvious by the number of people that wanted to understand more about the experience.

It will be important in the coming year to consolidate on this groundwork and make sure that we continue to attract a wider cross section of the community. Indeed, our success in being awarded a Federal Government grant of $4400 based on what the club can contribute to the community requires us to do just that.

The new clubhouse will provide us with an opportunity to better cater for social events so that it is not just the competitors that have all the fun.

Sponsors, committee members, volunteers, supporters, and participants all make valuable contributions to make it possible to conduct our events, so a very big thank you to everyone involved.

Happy racing for 2010-11

Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club - Presidents report July 2009

In the two years since the formation of our club we have increased participation numbers by about 100%. Ages range from 4 thru 55, with a pretty even spread of boys and girls. It is just fantastic to see so many juniors competing and enjoying themselves. The atmosphere at each event is more like a party than a serious sporting endeavour and this is how it should be.

During the season we held our first race the Ben Chifley dam as part of the interclub series. What a great location this turned out to be. With the exception that on race day it was 38deg. every competitor I spoke to had nothing but praise for the facilities, organisation and event location. Lets hope that in the years to come this event grows into a premier event for regional triathlons.

The club was again strongly represented at many levels of triathlon throughout the country and overseas. Be it juniors racing for school teams or individually, or seniors earning the right of passage to compete at the pinnacle of international triathlon, every member can be proud that they, in some small way contributed to their success.

As always, without dedicated volunteers, supporters, and participants, the opportunity to grow and prosper would be missed. I would also like to acknowledge the support of our sponsors who provide much of the valuable funding required to run our club. Finally, I would like to thank all the committee members for their contribution during the season and all those who helped at each race meeting.

Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club - Presidents report July 2008

What a year, what a season. Our first full season as a fully functioning tri club was, I believe, a roaring success. Importantly there were no major injuries during racing, but unfortunately we lost a dear friend whilst training. The dedication of our club championship race to David Carrol and David Scott was a fitting tribute. Jody Parker also sustained a major injury whilst training which put him out of contention for Port Macquarie Ironman.

We were fortunate throughout the season with the weather and I think this enhanced the spirit of each race meeting. Races were well attended, particularly by the juniors which is where our future lies.

In addition to hosting a round of the interclub series, to have over 200 athletes compete in the memorial race was something that the club can be very proud of.

I cant imagine what the cumulative training and racing mileage would have been over the past season for a number of our members, but I am sure it would show that dedication to a sport that allows acquaintances to become friends cant be a bad thing. A number of our juniors tasted success at various race meetings throughout Australia and a number of the seniors also showed that we can compete with the best of the age groupers at any race distance.

Without dedicated volunteers, supporters, and participants, the opportunity to grow and prosper would be missed. Looking at the range of ages, skills, abilities and sheer passion for the sport of triathlon that was displayed in the past season, I think this club has a great future.

I would like to thank all the committee members for their contribution during the season and all those who helped at each race meeting.

As we head into a new season, lets hope that we can replicate the good bits, learn from our mistakes and enjoy another great season of triathlon racing.
